Real Men Play With Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we have a local campaign going on called "Real Men Wear Pink". I think this is an interesting campaign since it has brought forth more men talking about how they play a role and our affected by the effects of breast cancer! Jack has brought a new twist to this campaign to remind us that real men play with pink! He has helped the women in our family and those who walk through our doors each week!

October Stamp Club Projects

I have a group of ladies that come over the first Friday of every month to stamp and create projects with Stampin' Up! products! This is the first club I have had and it has been so much fun getting to know these ladies more and use my resources to come up with projects! We had a Halloween theme this past month and created a spinner card, paper balls/ lantern, a dixie cup basket and decorated a sucker! I LOVE the paper balls and how you can change them with the seasons! I am already pondering making some for Christmas using all the papers I have collected! I LOVE my stamps, but am getting a paper addiction!

Thanks Mama Pat!

Troy and I received the cutest ducky quilt a couple of weeks ago from Mama Pat. Mama Pat is our "surrogate mother" who always has a listening ear and truly understands what Troy and I have been through and continue to deal with. She and her husband are true jewels! Mama Pat is a talented seamstress and asked to make us a quilt for our little one(s), but wanted to know what theme we wanted. Troy LOVES rubber ducks and we will be the "Roenfanz Rubber Duckies" if we ever have our own team, plus it is unisex since we don't care if we get a boy, girl or both! The quilt turned out perfect and has so many special little touches to it like the duck family on the back. I also hope her note in the card that accompanied it is true: "Now that I've finally got it there, maybe it will be a good omen for them to speed up in China! :-) " We hope so too!

10 Months LID and Prayer Request

Today marks 10 months since our dossier was logged into China and our wait officially began. I must say we are pretty bummed out at this time. Rumor Queen had a post on Wednesday regarding the future of the wait time and it was depressing. Of course she is not God and is looking only at previous numbers and other sources, but it downright STUNK! They are saying the wait can get to 34-36 months! The CCAA has "said" they will try to match at least 15 days of LID's each month starting in 2008, but that still puts us at another 2 years if we are lucky! We chose China for a number of reasons, but one of those was their speedier rate of referrals and integrity in the adoption process... PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE (I know we are desperate !!!) pray for this process to speed up, especially for the children in the orphanages! They ARE out there and need to be in their FOREVER FAMILIES NOW! Please pray for Troy and I, especially for patience and understanding during this time!

On a better note, the CCAA is done with referrals through November 2005! I read somewhere that it took 6 months to get through November! CRAZY! I feel for all those families! It did take them only 23 days to review the entire month of August 2006 LID's in the Review Room!

Hawks, Bulbs, Muffins and Other Ramblings...

It is Sunday night and I am reviewing the past weekend and how fast it has gone! I am also relishing that I only have to work a 1/2 day on Monday since the schools are closed, but the prenatal clinic remains open!

I had my stamp club meet on Friday night and we had a great time making a Halloween spinner card, paper lantern and a Dixie cup basket! I will have to post pictures of the projects later. Troy went golfing with friends while we met and he had an incredible game...it must be the new golf shirt he received for his birthday. He came home excited as always and had to tell me the story, hole by hole! He did shoot 1 above par a week ago!

Since Troy had to work at the the soccer fields on Saturday, I caught up with some grocery shopping and went to Kohls for some more silverware. It is amazing how often we do dishes and run out of silverware with 1-2 extra people in the house per day! How do these families of 16 do it! I ended the evening (after having our weekly Mexican dinner and buying birdseed) with making muffins for house church on Sunday. We start off with a potluck breakfast each morning and it gives me an excuse to try out different recipes or throw together my experiments! So far so good despite Abby saying my food is too spicy! Hello, I am from Texas and we like flavor! I give her a hard time. Troy said he was the same way, but his taste buds have adjusted! She will be a spice lover before she knows it! Oh, Abby and Troy are depressed since Iowa lost. Next week is the big Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Texas Longhorns game, so I have been told. I told Troy we might as well become Illinois fans since they are doing very well this year. I am not a football lover, but I listen to the stories.

House church was incredible again! Each week has been totally different and while we have between 6-8 meet each week, we have had new faces each time! It is so relational because you actually get to talk to people and talk during church! Drinking coffee the entire time is not a bad addition either! Plus, Jack gets to join us! I love having our dog at church! After a short nap, I planted 100 spring bulbs this afternoon. This is a first for me, so we will see what happens. My hands are feeling it though! We are praying for rain and cooler weather! It was 94 degrees today and it is October in the Midwest. We were going to go to the pumpkin patch this afternoon, but it felt too much like summer! My parents are coming in on Wednesday from Texas and we are going to take them on Thursday. The weather is to be in the upper 60's, so I pray it feels more like Fall! The leaves are changing colors and dropping to the ground, but the temps are in the 90's! Global warming...

Troy's Birthday in Review!

Troy celebrated his 33rd birthday on the 26th and we decided to have a little fun with him! Abby (Troy's cousin who is living with us) and I came up with some clues to a scavenger hunt since I was too lazy to wrap one of Troy's gifts. Here we go:

Clue #1 was attached to his golf shirt and it read: I get hot when you turn me on. After checking the stove, shower and water faucets, Troy found clue #2 at... By the way, look at Jack sitting and listening so patiently. He is so dang cute!

...the gas grill! Clue #2 read: Jack's favorite outdoor food.

Troy immediately knew the answer to this one! Jack loves to eat birdseed which is kept in our barn like shed. Clue #3 said: Are you in the zone?

Since Abby brought her T.V., we now have a "Man Zone" in the basement! This was an easy clue, but the next one really stumped him. Clue #4: A mouse poops from this.

... yes, the trunk of my Matrix. (We call the Matrix "Mousey" since it looks like a little white mouse that ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOMS.) Troy got his 3 in 1 leaf blower that he has been wanting to add to his collection of tools "every man needs to have".

Please, Can I Have Some Ice Cream!

I am looking very cute sitting on Abby's lap! Can I please have some ice cream?

Why are you teasing me?I am watching...

Oh, I got a sample!
Wow! What a lady letting me lick her bowl!

Review Room is Speeding Up!

The CCAA has reviewed Dossiers through Aug. 31, 2006! The last time I posted regarding review room updates was 9/11 and they got through all of July 2005, so you can do the math! We still hope to be out by January 2008, but if they continue to go at this pace, we might be out by early December! I know that is being EXTREMELY optimistic, but it CAN happen! It is our prayer the match department works as hard as the dossier review department!

Troy...Recent Local Celebrity

Breaking news...Troy has been pictured and quoted in the local paper and on the news, twice in one week! Since working at the YMCA, he has helped form a multi-sport club for the city of Decatur. They have gotten a lot of press lately! Go Tri-Gators! Below are the links. The news video is not up yet, but I will try and find it once it has been released!

Tears and Enchiladas

While eating our traditional Friday night Mexican food at one of our favorite spots (praise God for good Mexican food in Central Illinois!), Troy said, "I am going to bawl when we become parents!" This of course brought instant tears dripping into my enchilada verdes! I of course asked him "Why?" His response, "It is such an honor for God to select US to parent HIS children!" This brought more tears.

There has been discussion in our LID Yahoo group as to what peoples plans are due to the increasing wait times in China. A few have pulled out, some are sticking with it and others are looking into concurrent adoptions. Troy and I have discussed this and he says, "We will be patient and wait on China." We cannot afford a concurrent adoption and we ARE NOT pulling out, so we continue to wait for a miracle(s) to happen....China speed up, one of my clients chooses us to parent their child, I miraculously become pregnant or all the above!

We Should Be Delivering Soon...

... if we were pregnant with a biological child, but we have the gestation of an elephant (22 months) give or take a few, adopting from China! Today is our 9 month LID anniversary and it has gone fast! Hopefully the rest of our waiting time will go quickly! Troy and I have our moments of frustration, but all we can do is pray! Please continue to pray for China and all the waiting families! We try to remain optimistic, but it is a roller coaster ride that we pray we will be off of soon!

Review Room Update

July 2006 dossiers are out of the Review Room! With a LID of 12-11-06, it is our prayer to be out by January 2008! You can see from the chart, it took the CCAA a little longer to review these dossiers then the previous two months, but it still beats 106 days!

Referral History and Prayer Request

This chart is from Rumor Queens website and is a good reference to see how the wait has gotten longer over the years and the number of Log-In-Days (LID) matched has slowed down. I am not a huge fan of Rumor Queen considering her information is so disheartening at times, but she is a good resource to see when referrals might be coming available. Many families choose to post a link to her blog during referral time so you can see the children that have been given forever families.

Please keep the rest of us waiting families in your prayers. When Troy and I started the paperwork in March 2006, we were told the wait would be between 10-12 months after we got our LID. This whole journey has been a test of patience and learning to give up control. We were done with all of our paperwork in May 2006, but had to wait on our social worker to finish our homestudy (July) and the USCIS (immigration) to give us our fingerprinting appointment and process our 171-H. Most people are able to complete their dossier in 3-6 months, but it took us 8 due to waiting on other people! In the meantime, we have had a couple of moms consider us to adopt their babies only to decide to parent them instead. We know God's timing is perfect(even though we don't like it at times), but we are ready to parent and wonder how and when He is going to build our family!

Adoption Update

Refferals are being sent out and the CCAA only matched 4 days! I am happy for those who are getting to see their child for the first time, but this is also depressing news for the rest of us waiting! It has to speed up!

Introducing...

... Jack Beckham! Jack is sporting a new haircut and soccer ball! Yes, it is pink and purple, but that is all the store had and we HAD to purchase one right away after his black and white soccer ball saw better days! Jack has a little more energy to play now that he is no longer a ball of fur!

We Are Blessed!

It has been a while since I have posted the gifts we have received from our Winter Blossoms Secret Pal group! My computer has our pictures on it and it is running supper SLOW making it is a pain to post, but I decided to fire her up and play catch up today since I am stuck inside dealing with allergies.

The theme for June was "Welcome to America" and the Symonies were our secret pals! Kerrie and Ken truly outdid themselves! The package also arrived on my birthday and it was an added bonus! You can see from the picture that even Jack got the cutest dog treats! Troy and I are huge U2 fans and they included a lullaby CD that is all U2 songs without the words to dulcimer like sounds! I didn't even know this CD existed! In addition, they included 2 bibs in case we receive twins! Thanks again Symonies!

The August theme was "Dinnertime", but the Daughs made it even more meaningful! We received an Asian Cabbage Patch Kid along with Asian stickers for our little one(s) Lifebook! Cabbage Patch Kids hold a special place in my heart! I still remembering getting my first one with my grandparents. I wanted a bald, black boy in overalls, but my grandfather wouldn't buy him for me (my grandfather was part of the generation when many people were racist and segregation existed). I got a little bald, white boy instead! I still have that CPK today wearing the clothes my other grandmother made for him!

A New Season Begins

Sorry that the survey in the previous post is not working properly. I have tried and tried to redo it, but have been unsuccessful! So far Vin Diesel is in the lead!

This is my last day of summer before school starts on Wednesday. It is a bittersweet time, but exciting things lay ahead. We start our house church (The Joshua Tree Network) on Sept. 9 with the first one being at our house, I have a new stamp club beginning Sept. 7, I start teaching sign language again for work which is always fun, and Troy's cousin, Abby is coming to live with us while she does her internship at the YMCA. In addition, Troy and I are competing in the LazyMan 140.6 Triathlon in September that the Y is sponsoring. We have 6 weeks to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2. ! It should be a lot of fun! We did one while living in St. Louis and it is motivation to get you moving! Speaking of moving, Troy and I competed in the Lytle Park Sprint Triathlon (300m swim, 12 mile bike, 5K run) in Mattoon on Saturday. This was my first tri in 4 years, but I did the AquaBike. I don't do well in heat and low and behold, the temperature was in the low 80's. I could have done the whole thing, but it was fun to try something new! Troy did fabulous! This was his first tri that he didn't take home any "hardware". He has been racing in the Clydesdale division for bigger men, but decided to race in his age group instead. Had he raced in Clydesdale, he would have won by 5 minutes, but he got 6th in his age division. It was his best race ever! I got 2nd in the AquaBike, but there were only 2 of us! Had I done the entire thing, I would have won my age group! I laugh because I am not a competitive person and do not consider myself an athlete at all! I consider it a true joy to just cross the finish line!

8 Months Down...

...and hopefully only 12-14 more to go. That is our prayer even though we are being highly optimistic if the CCAA continues at the rate they are currently going. Miracles do happen!

21st it is...

Of November. That is how far the CCAA went in referrals this month. Congratulations to all of those families who received referrals. Rumor Queen said there were many boys referred and several sets of twins! I have not come across any blogs out there to confirm this, but it is interesting. I am still waiting for our agency to post how many referrals they received this month. Rumors out there say November 2005 was a large month for log-in days and things should speed up.

This is the weekend for the Decatur Celebration... a weekend long street fair with bands, food, various acts, crafts, etc. This is a HUGE event for Decatur! For people who have moved away, THIS is the weekend they often come back for family/class reunions. Our neighborhood is full of guests! Troy and I are helping park cars at the church on Saturday since our church is offering free parking because God's love is free. Chris Rice is playing on the Christian stage Saturday night so we plan on seeing what he is like in concert.

On a personal note...please keep Troy and I in your prayers. We are launching the first simple church out of our house starting Sept. 9! We have been meeting with a group of people every Wednesday for the past 4 months on laying the foundations for this soon to be simple church network! Everyone is so excited and ready to start now!
